BONGI’S Roasting Tips

(thaw frozen turkeys)

Step 1: Clean Turkey
Remove turkey from Bag. Remove the neck and giblets and set aside. Rinse the inside and out with cool running water and allow to drain.

Step 2: Stuff Turkey
The turkey may be cooked stuffed or unstuffed. Stuffing should be prepared just before roasting your bird. (If you use a meat stuffing, prepare ahead making sure the stuffing ingredients are cooked, then refrigerate until ready to use). Stuff both the front and rear cavities lightly, don’t overstuff as the stuffing will expand. Though it is not necessary, you may want to skewer the cavities closed. Place the remaining stuffing in a separate dish to be baked separately from the turkey.

Step 3: Roast Turkey
Preheat the oven to 350°. Place turkey in a 3 inch deep roasting pan. Cover drumsticks with foil. Oil the skin of the breast with vegetable oil or butter. Make a loose tent of foil over the bird. Pour 2-3 cups of water into the bottom of the roasting pan. It is ok for your turkey to sit in the water however you may choose to use a pan with a rack. New for this year, your BONGI Turkey is equipped with a pop-up timer. When the timer pops the turkey is done. These timers are very accurate but estimated times are listed below. Turkeys take approximately 20 min/lb. stuffed and 15 min/lb. unstuffed in a 325° oven. Manual thermometers should read 165° in the breast and 180° in the thigh.

Approximate Cooking Times:
10-12 lb. 3 ½ -4 ½ hrs.
12-16 lb. 4 ½ -5 hrs.
16-20 lb. 5-6 hrs.
20-24 lb. 5 ½ – 6 ½ hrs.
24-28 lb. 6-7 hrs.
28-32 lb. 7-8 hrs.

Step 4: Brown Turkey
Once turkey is done, uncover the breast and raise the oven temperature to 375°. Allow the turkey to brown for a few minutes. (Note: It is not recommended to brown the turkey for too long as it may dry the meat). Once brown, remove the turkey from the oven and set aside for 20-30 minutes before carving.

Be sure to refrigerate leftovers as soon as possible.
